Now released into the Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy range a brand new big monster which is great for 15mm and 28mm uses both Japanese and other fantasy settings.  The Gashadokuro is a feared thing sculpted by John Bell and as well as its release we have some news for you on what else is coming for the Sengoku Range in 2019.  Go HERE for the range or read on for more information.

SGF136 Gashadokuro (Giant Skeleton of the Dishonoured Dead)

This pack contains one white metal monster of Japanese mythology which stands 50mm tall and can be used in most settings.  It is made of bones and features  many human skulls as the joints of its arms and legs.  Gashadokuro are spirits in the form of giant skeletons many times taller than an average person and said to be created from the amassed bones of people who died of starvation or in battle without being buried. They grab lone travellers and bite off their heads to drink their blood. A prime target for Monster Hunters!

The Gashadokuro is a fearsome monster indeed and it is part of the continuing expansion of the Sengoku range which is working towards doubling its size and another book to go alongside Sengoku Monster Hunter (Print or Digital Download).  There are many more releases coming; following up on the Guild Hunters and the Sengoku Buildings and Roadside Shrines.  More than thirty poses are now sculpted and molded including Kitsune, Sohei Monks, Snakemen, Demon Painters, Hermits, Watchmen plus Cavalry on Horses and Shogi player and a Palaquin set.  All sculpted by John Bell.  These will be released as singles as well as value packs and entire set packs from June onwards.

There is a follow up book coming which takes up where Sengoku Monster Hunter ended.  It is going to be called 'Rampage' and will be an expansion to Monster Hunter.  Written by Steve Danes it will feature more content for Monster Hunter and you will need the first book in order to use it.  Many more monsters will be detailed from the 15mm Sengoku range and new sets of encounters allowing for Soba Shops and much more.  There will be new Hunters in profiles and in Hunter types such as shape shifting Yokai and the dreaded Water Shadow Clan.  There will be a new Hunting Ground in the detailed form of Underworld; tunnels, caverns and the sinister Ghost Light too.  Lastly the core feature of the new book the expanded rules for Rampage!  More monsters in play and monsters hunting the hunters too.  Can you avoid them, can you beat them?  Six new scenarios will let you find out.  

At the time of this news article the manuscript for the book is complete and an artist has been taken on to create a new stunning piece of cover art in the same vein as before.  John Bell has provided internal artwork and photos are being taken of the miniatures to include in the pages.  It will be in print and as a digital download.  No confirmed release date just yet but it will be the summer of 2019.

“Like minded individuals often gather together for mutual defence of themselves and their turf. It's a strategy that humanity has employed from the early days of recorded history to the industrial work gangs in the mega cities of earth and Alpha Centuari. However colonial gangs are more often than not the first line of defence in case of siege and invasion as they are farmers and families who have gathered together to protect their holdings and claims from aggression. Once a colony has developed beyond a few small farms and a port is established, the gangs still exist, levying control on areas they claimed at the start of the landing. However other inhabitants may take offense to this and start their own gangs to take back these holdings. At other times they are sprung up from perpetually bored teenagers with little common sense and an eye for violence. On occasion they may even become notorious criminals or just a more militant version of the Planet Defence Forces. Their colours are as numerous as they have numbers, and are often used as a conscript force if things do get dire. Lightly armoured but heavily armed with cheap rec-guns and knowledge, their hold on their turf is absolute and can spring ambushes and raid supply convoys before melting back into spider holes to lick their wounds and strike again later. Their morale is often tied to their leader through a cult of personality, if he dies, they will run. But as most find out, they will be back in greater numbers and with more weapons to settle the score. Colonial life is harsh and brutal enough as it is, but these souls have opted for a more difficult life and will carve out their name and colours... or die trying.” 

The brand new release for May 2019 into the HOF 15mm Science Fiction range is a mega pack of 15mm Gangers great for any campaign and setting. HOF136 Urban Gang Conscripts 

This pack contains fourteen different 15mm scale white metal one piece miniatures sculpted by Sean Bullough. Human gang members both male and female great for any number of present day or near future campaigns. Our painted set is in the colours of The Wolverines Gang a blight on the honest citizens of Alpha Centauri city seven. You can see that the poses each have a letter next to them. REGIMENTA DEL SANNA ANNIE

Something of a legend in Southern Catalucia is the once magnificent Regimenta Del Sanna Annie, an ancient and venerable regiment of Grenadier quality troops in the personal service of Fernando.  Since those glory days the ‘Sannie’ as the Orcs call the battalions has taken part in many battles and survived them all almost intact.  Accompanied by a priest on a donkey and gaudy officers along with a veritable train of women and hangers on the Regimenta is a spectacle on the move.  It is organised like any other Dark Elf Line battalion with the same equipment.  The Regimenta may only serve in a non-Ferach Division or force.

If you are playing in Catalucia or Al-Garvey with the Orcs of Albion against the Ferach Elves of the Emperor Mordred then there is something here for you.  If you are playing in the Witchlands then some of the characters are very useful as are the infantry if you use them as turncoats in the pay of Armorica just like the Al-Garvey Ferach Legion Goblins.

I am delighted to be able to tell you about a new channel producing wargaming videos on Youtube by the name of Tiny Table Wargames. This channel will specialise in the smaller scales primarily 15mm scale miniatures and games. It is based in the UK and run by a great chap Luke Morgan. Alternative Armies has been fortunate enough to have a couple of videos feature our HOT and HOTT 15mm fantasy miniatures. Each video is just over ten minutes long and is wholly independent and impartial. 

The first video is an unboxing of an order from Alternative Armies containing an entire HOTT 24AP Army. 

The second video is a look at our HOT 15mm Elf Cavalry as Imperial Elves as TTW channel gives you the scoop on the miniatures.

Alternative Armies has been busy with many things this spring and bubbling away in the background has been the re-molding and readying of more classic codes from the 1980's Torture Chamber range in 25mm to 28mm scale.  As out last news for May we present to you three more codes returned to life meaning that we now have fifteen packs back in the world.  Great for dioramas, for dungeon crawl, for wargaming in fantasy and historical settings.

It is my pleasure to present a one page free download for players of Furioso and its Italian Wars expansion.  Written by the author Steve Danes it is a playtest army list for the Ottoman Empire.  While not finalised these game statistics bolt right onto the game and mean you can field Janissary, Azabs and other units.  If you wish to learn more about this popular Renaissance period historical wargame as well as to see the books (print and download), links to articles and the whole 15mm miniature line which supports it go HERE.

Furioso is a great game which is easy to learn and presents challenging and strategic play in a scale of your choice.  Alternative Armies has a number of pre-made armies for the game which can get you started.

Furioso – The Ottoman List

This one page download gives you an army list to make use of renaissance era soldiers of the Ottoman Empire in your games of Furioso.  Hosted on our website you can get it free by CLICKING HERE.

We have Ottoman codes in the 15mm range under the OT and OTC structures.  See them HERE and HERE and you can select from single miniatures for as many as you want.

The Adventures of Gorgon Lightfoote - Part 1

I've been promising to tell you about the adventures of Gorgon Lightfoote for a while now. He is a Spy Master in the Britorcn Army and leads a group of specialists that volunteered to be sent to the Witchlands to spy on and disrupt the Ferach forces. Once they arrived though they found the Dark Czar's army to be unwelcoming and aggressive towards their small force, so they knew that they were on their own. Lightfoote decided to stay to gather all the information he could about both sides of the conflict in order to better defend the Realm. 

This has enabled me to create some interesting little scenarios, and establish a third party with no loyalty to the Ferach or the Witchlands armies. These have initially been small scale raids to capture supplies or personnel for interrogation as Lightfoote's force is fairly small and spread out, but I'm sure he will gather reinforcements over time which I will tell you about. As his force is made up of volunteers it has enabled me to use Orcs, Hob Goblins, Ogres, Rats and Elf Deserters which has been great fun (despite the more complicated section rosters which result). 

Gorgon Lightfoote

Lightfoote is a Hob Goblin from Taffsea and was a major with the Ram Raiders before his retirement. He was loved by his troops and an excellent tactician which is why he didn't actually retire but was instead recruited into the Britorcn Secret Service where he has risen to the position of Spy Master. While he's not the toughest leader around his intelligence more than makes up for it, although he has some skill with a pistol or blade when the situation calls for it. 

For the man himself I've used the Hob Goblin Miser Figure. It's a great casting and Lightfoote dresses in civilian clothes to disguise himself. I have added a sword in its scabbard (from accessory pack BS14) to show that he is armed.

In the game he is a Veteran Hob Goblin Regular Officer armed with a Sword and a Ferach Elf Duelling Pistol. He has the Magicke Talent of Prevent Injury (potent), the Duellist Skill and the traits of Steadfast and Massive Jamminess.

Corporal Fixit

This KGL trooper has been Lightfoote's bodyguard and battlefield companion for many years. An Ogre of few words, his name has come from his habit of saying 'me fix' before sorting out a situation he and Lightfoote find themselves in. The sorting out usually involves someone getting a thumping, normally the enemy but not always which is why his comrades are often wary around him. For Corporal Fixit I've used the 56031 KGL Trooper who looks like a tough old campaigner with his eye patch! 

In the game Fixit is a Veteran KGL Ogre armed with an Orc Bessie Musket. He has the Iron Hard and Knuckles traits, and in addition if he is within 3 inches of Lightfoote any wounds that Lightfoote takes can be transferred to Fixit as he throws himself in the way.

Daisy

This Highland Cow carries the supplies of Lightfoote's force and is usually led by Corporal Fixit. I've used 56511L the resin Highland Limber Cow for Daisy with the simple conversion of adding a box and keg one side, and a festoon the other as a basket carrying their victuals, all from pack 5003B. I've put a pie from pack BS001 on top of the festoon to highlight this fact.

Stab and Grab

If you've read my 14th article concerning the Civilians of Valon, then you've met these guys before. They are former Orc line troopers from the Britorcn Army of Catalucia. In the army their exploits were legendary amongst the rank and file but frowned upon generally by their officers. Comrades in their section never went hungry as their reputation for scavenging and thievery meant that they would always 'acquire' whatever they wanted. Unfortunately they pushed their luck by plundering the baggage of their own general and the rumour is that they were only saved from being hanged by their Major who intervened on their behalf. He saved their lives but they were still dishonourably discharged. 

In the Witchlands their real names are only known by Lightfoote who recruited them into the Secret Service and they just use their knicknames of Stab and Grab. They have joined the followers of the Ferach army and are regularly reporting back to Lightfoote on troop movements and interesting events. They get in places that wouldn't normally be possible by hiring themselves to Ferach Officers as additional guards, thugs or labourers. They don't mind if their tasks require a moral flexibility which has seen them regularly called upon during the Ferach retreat especially as units compete with their own side for resources. If more Elves happen to go missing then Stab and Grab see it as one less to fight at a later date!

As part of Lightfoote's force they are used as Experienced Orc regulars. They each carry 2 pistols and have knives hidden all over their bodies. In close combat they both fight with 2 knives but such is their skill they get a +2 melee modifier as if they were using a sword. When Lightfoote's force is attacking a Ferach force Stab and Grab are always deployed last after all other characters from both sides and may be deployed anywhere on the table as long as they are not less than 6 inches from an enemy figure. This is to represent the fact that they are often hired by Ferach officers who think that they are part of their own section! 

Blacke Watchit

Lightfoote's escort are composed of Highland Rat Blacke Watchit troopers from pack 56533 armed with Bessie muskets. They are highly thought of troops within the armies of Albion and the importance of Lightfoote's mission is shown by the fact that these elite troopers accompany him. They are tough in a fight and good shots so are solid troops in any situation.

The expansion of our Goblin Knights continues with the release of a new pack of armoured gunners and a new artillery piece. Back in 2018 and earlier this year we spoke about and then began the new releases (see our blog on this TAG to read all the articles and see the pictures including the painted collection of Benamon Tame) in our 28mm Orcs and Goblins range. There are more than thirty packs (all can be had as single miniatures too) in the range now including other Armoured Goblins plus a Giant Troll as well as artillery pieces, chariots and many Orcs. The new gunners were created by Zach Martin while our own Sam Croes worked up the bombard. These go perfectly with the open handed Goblin Knights with a choice of weapons. You can get the bombard on its own and it fits right in with any Goblinoid or evil orientated army.

This code contains two different 28mm scale white metal miniatures approx 22mm in height plus a three part bombard artillery piece decorated with iron banding and the face of a mighty extinct fish. Select your choice from the drop down menu on the website. Poses in this code are as follows:

OH35-02: Goblin in full plate armour holding a cannon ball.

This code contains one 28mm scale white metal artillery piece kit. Composed of three pieces the bombard is decorated with iron banding and the face of a mighty extinct fish. Great for use in any evil orientated or barbaric army. When built it is 40mm from barrel end to tail. This model is supplied unpainted and unassembled without a base. Now released as Alternative Armies new 15mm scale miniatures sculpted by John Bell added to the Sengoku range of Japanese Fantasy.  As we build towards the next mega set of miniatures this time it is a pack and singles of Komosu and Sohei Monks to add to your collection.  As well as this we are delighted to present a simple two page game written by John Bell as a free download which bolts onto the Monster Hunter rules.  Go HERE or read on for more.

Last time we brought you the Gashadokuro (Giant Skeleton of the Dishonoured Dead) the largest model in the range thus far.  Work continues upon the sequel to Sengoku Monster Hunter and its going well.

This pack contains twelve mixed miniatures some in two parts.  Four Komusu Monks with flutes mixed from two poses.  Eight Sohei Monks with weapons as well as unarmoured or armoured legs taken from four different poses. The Legions of the Shia Khan Empire are the main fighting force of the Empire and the expendable cannon fodder of the Legions are the Space Goblins or Maligs as they are known.  Drawn from endless slave worlds in great hordes the Maligs are treated roughly and given weapons beyond their understanding. Commanded by all and in command of nothing.  Shoved into Tesserans (8 Troops) and Ordos (32 Troops) the Maligs don't last long in combat but they perform a valuable role; they kill Humans.  Crass, brutal and often savage the word Malig is hated by all.

An Army Book for the Patrol Angis game system.  You need Patrol Angis and Callsign Taranis to make full use of this expansion title.  This Army Book brings you to the Camarthen star system for a desperate campaign for possession of a planet upon which sits an alien Matter Gateway. Now that it is switched on the gateway has brought a mythical enemy of Humanity back to reality from far across the galaxy; The Shia Khan Empire. Making use of the Patrol Angis rule book for skirmishes and the Callsign Taranis expansion book for larger games you can now add the Khanate Empire and also Planetary Defence Forces to your games. Read all about the tragic fate of Camarthen Prime and the start of the second Khanate War as a world burns. You can then create and assemble your own Tesserans and Ordos (platoons) along with vehicles and more for the Khanate with armoury and army lists. Here at Alternative Armies we have been overhauling the entire 15mm Renaissance range we call Altuos which also includes the excellent Furioso 16th century warfare rule system. We have added around two hundred and fifty new painted example pictures of the range, we have added the option of purchasing the riders only in cavalry codes. We now have the option to purchase only the horses from the range and we have added in total three new codes. New molds now exist of our 15mm Buildings (HOB codes), of our 15mm Walls (HOT codes) and of Leonardo Da Vinci and of his Tank too. Warfare in the late 15th Century through the 16th Century and into the 17th Century is what our 15mm Renaissance range is all about. If you have not heard of Furioso written by Steve Danes then now is a great time to learn more and to get into this wargame system. The book is in print and as a digital download plus we have a mega bundle with two armies and the book or the armies on their own (with free element bases!) plus packs of bases for Furioso. All of these have a saving off list price and during this event 10% more is saved on top of that. 

Some two hundred and fifty new pictures of almost all of the infantry, cavalry, artillery, gunners and commanders in the range are now online. Front and Rear pictures at a larger size and resolution than before. Painted in period uniforms by Furioso author Steve Danes (very talented chap!) they look great and it is a pleasure to browse at your leisure. 

We listen to customer feedback and have added new products and options to the Altuos range. You can now select on page to get 'rider only' with all cavalry codes and some cavalry codes give mount choices too. Commanders can be bought on their own as well as in small sets. We have the ability to purchase any of the MRH Horses and the OTH Horses (Ottoman) on their own now. Mix and match and choose who riders which mount in your armies. 

As well as the figure range we have 15mm Buildings designed by Sam Croes which are, as we are told, some of the most characterful and finest there are. These along with five different packs of 15mm walls are all in resin and in new molds this week. All on the first page of the range HERE. 

Featuring large in the The Italian Wars expansion for Furioso the great man Leonardo Da Vinci has his own miniatures in the range on foot and mounted as well as his Tank or Turtle Car which is a great 15mm model and has game rules too. Now released as Alternative Armies new 15mm scale miniatures sculpted by John Bell added to the Sengoku range of Japanese Fantasy.  As we build towards the next mega set of miniatures this time it is a pack and singles of different Snakemen (and women) plus a lovely Kitsune with Cub to add to your collection.  Go HERE or read on for more.

We hope to be in a position to tell you more about the next book for Sengoku Monster Hunter in the near future.  All work upon it was suspended while our team all laboured on the overhaul of our website.

SGFP36 Snake Warriors and Lone Kitsune

This pack contains twelve mixed miniatures most in two parts.  Two Lone Kitsune and Kit single piece miniatures.  Ten Snake Warriors with weapons taken from four different poses. Sengoku Monster Hunter  

A Tabletop Game for up to Four Player or Solo Play 
using the Sengoku range of 15mm miniatures. 

A game for one to four players set in medieval Japan where monsters and creatures of myth roam the jagged crags and hidden valleys of the Sacred Mountain. It is from the Sengoku setting and has merciless hunters who track down the monsters and slaughter them at every opportunity. Who you Play. Hunters are the players characters in the game. Each hunter has a profile of attributes, skills and special abilities that players can improve if their hunters are successful. Streaking towards the ground with all passengers strapped in tight Alternative Armies is proud to insert three new codes with a mega launch offer in the HOF 15mm Science Fiction range!  We have simple to assemble Drop Pods in both a landed and closed design plus a Drop Coffin. In the near future on Earth or further in the future across the galaxy you sometimes need to get your soldiers ground side in a hurry. Our new Drop Pods have you covered for this. Designed in conjunction with long term wargamer Fred Richards (he of the Bear Cat Battlesuit). This 15mm scale resin kit contains an easy to assemble three piece high quality resin model.  A five berth drop pod which will bring your troops from orbit and into the battle at high velocity. This drop pod is opened like the petals of a titanium flower showing it having deployed its infantry cargo onto the field.  It measures 70mm across, 70mm deep and 40mm tall.  You can choose from a kit or select parts. This 15mm scale metal and resin kit contains an easy to assemble three piece model.  A single trooper 'drop coffin' which will shoot a soldier into combat from a spacecraft high above in orbit..an express elevator indeed!  You can assemble it off the crater or on the crater, with the hatch in place or removed meaning a lot of choice.  When assembled as shown it is 35mm wide and 35mm tall.  You can choose from a kit or select parts of the kit.
